They don’t make standard keyboards anymore. 😢

Recommend me an ANSI standard 104-key low-profile keyboard. Can you?

It has to be:

  • Slim / low profile
  • 100% standard ANSI 104-key layout 👈
  • Preferably chiclet key design
  • Preferably wired, but wireless is ok too

What standard ANSI layout means:

  • thin horizontal Enter key
  • groups of function keys are separated by empty space between them
  • the main, arrows and the numpad areas are separated by empty space between them
  • additional keys are fine as long as they are not messing with the layout

I am looking for high quality builds with key travel that feels and sounds good.

But here’s a catch: most major hardware producers have stopped producing the true standard layout. And I don’t understand why.

Obvious recommendations like Apple Magic Keyboard or Logitech MX Keys are really close, but still don’t hit the mark.

Apple Magic Keyboard: function keys are not separated into groups, an eject key sits where F13 should be, and there’s no Insert key at all 👎 Non-standard

Logitech MX Keys: function keys are not separated into groups, and extra keys are squeezed into the top row 👎 Non-standard

My current choice is A4Tech KV-300H, which I use since 2011, renewing it every few years when it wears out 😅 Luckily they still manufacture it. But I’m not fully happy with how key travel feels.

A4Tech KV300H: separated function key groups, separated arrows and numpad areas, thin horizontal Enter 👍 100% STANDARD

Tell me if you know any matching options.
